Privacy Policy

Built for kids. Built for trust.

Inkspire is a creative platform for children. Protecting their privacy isn\'t a feature — it\'s the foundation of everything we build.

Overview

Inkspire (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates a creative storytelling platform designed for children ages 4–12. We are committed to protecting the privacy of children and their families, and to complying with the Children\'s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and other applicable laws.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights parents and guardians have over their child\'s data. By using Inkspire, you agree to the practices described here.

Our promise

We never sell children\'s data. We never advertise to children. We only share a child\'s creative work with their parent or guardian.

Information We Collect

To provide the Inkspire experience, we collect the following information:

From Parents (Account Holders)

  • Parent\'s name and email address
  • Billing information (processed securely by Stripe — we never store full card numbers)
  • Mailing address (only when you order a printed book or hardware)
  • Account preferences and settings

From Children (with parent consent)

  • First name only (no last name required) and age
  • Stories the child writes (text, drawings, illustrations)
  • Audio recordings if the child uses voice-to-text or narration features
  • Drawings and artwork created in the app or on the Studio Tablet
  • Generated animated films (created from the child\'s story)
  • Anonymous usage data to improve the product (no tracking across other apps or sites)

We do not collect: children\'s last names, home addresses, phone numbers, photos, geolocation data, or persistent identifiers used for behavioral advertising.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect strictly to:

  • Power the core Inkspire experience — generating animated films, providing the Story Coach, and printing books from your child\'s stories
  • Sync stories across the Inkspire app, Smart Pen, and Studio Tablet
  • Send order confirmations, shipping updates, and important account notices to parents
  • Respond to support requests from parents
  • Improve our product through aggregated, anonymized analytics
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect against fraud or abuse

We never use children\'s data for targeted advertising, behavioral profiling, or to train third-party AI models on identifiable children\'s content.

Children\'s Privacy (COPPA)

Inkspire complies with the Children\'s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Because our service is designed for children under 13, we take additional steps to protect them:

  • Verifiable parental consent is required before any child can create an account or use Inkspire features
  • Parents must create the account; children cannot sign up directly
  • We collect only the information needed to provide the service — nothing more
  • A child\'s creative work is shared only with their parent or guardian. Stories, drawings, audio, and films are never made public, sold, or shared with other users by default
  • We do not allow third-party advertising, behavioral tracking, or social media plugins on screens children interact with
  • Parents have full visibility and control over what their child has created and stored

Public sharing is parent-controlled

If a parent chooses to share a film or story (for example, in a class showcase or family album), they make that decision explicitly through their parent dashboard. Children cannot make content public on their own.

Parental Rights & Controls

As a parent or legal guardian, you have the right to:

  • Review all the personal information we have collected from your child
  • Download a copy of your child\'s stories, drawings, audio, and films at any time
  • Correct any information that is inaccurate
  • Delete your child\'s account and all associated data
  • Refuse further collection or use of your child\'s information
  • Revoke consent at any time, which will immediately stop new data collection

Most of these actions can be done directly from your parent dashboard inside the Inkspire app. For anything else, email us at [email protected] and we\'ll respond within 7 business days.

Third-Party Services

To bring stories to life, Inkspire uses a small number of carefully selected service providers. We share only the minimum information needed for each service to function, and we require every provider to handle children\'s data in compliance with COPPA, GDPR-K, and our own data processing standards.

OpenAI

Used for the Story Coach AI and to help structure stories into scenes for film generation. Children\'s text is sent for processing and is not used to train OpenAI models under our enterprise data processing agreement.

fal.ai

Generates the animated film from your child\'s story. Story scenes and prompts are sent to render the video. Inputs are not retained for model training.

ElevenLabs

Provides voice narration for animated films. Story text is sent to generate audio. ElevenLabs does not use children\'s data to train voice models under our agreement.

Stripe

Processes all payments (subscriptions, hardware orders, printed books). Stripe receives parent billing information only — never any child\'s data. We never store full payment card numbers on our servers.

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to anyone. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect Inkspire\'s rights, or in connection with a merger or acquisition (in which case parents will be notified in advance).

Data Deletion Requests

You can request the deletion of your child\'s data at any time, in any of these ways:

  • Delete the account directly from Settings → Privacy → Delete Account in the Inkspire app
  • Email [email protected] from the parent email on file
  • Use our contact form with the subject “Data Deletion Request”

Once verified, we will permanently delete the account, all stories, drawings, audio recordings, films, and any associated personal information from our active systems within 30 days. Backups containing the data are overwritten on a rolling 90-day cycle. We will also instruct our service providers to delete any data they process on our behalf.

We may retain limited information if required by law (for example, transaction records for tax purposes) or to resolve disputes — these records contain no creative content from your child.

Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect children\'s information:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256)
  • Strict access controls — only authorized engineers can access production systems, and access is logged
  • Regular security audits and penetration testing
  • Secure cloud infrastructure (SOC 2 compliant providers)
  • Multi-factor authentication required for all employee accounts

No system is 100% secure, but we work hard to make ours as safe as possible for the families who trust us.
